Last month, we celebrated our 30 Year Anniversary! To honour this milestone we gave away 30 yoga mats to three deserving organizations. We were completely blown away by the amount of responses and amazing stories that were shared with us and we want to send out a big thank you to everyone who participated.

The recipients of our Anniversary Giveaway are three people who spread the healing power of yoga in their own communities. Congratulations to DeNel, Leslie and Julie — it is amazing what you are doing for the yoga community and this world as a whole. We are thrilled to be able to contribute to your work. Keep being YOU.

DeNel — Nova Scotia, Canada

DeNel teaches yoga and meditation to the residents of Bonny Lea Farm. This rural residence is the home and workplace of adults living with varying physical and intellectual challenges. In a family-like setting, participants are taught by staff and volunteers. They learn self-respect, love one for another, dignity, integrity, productivity, and responsible community living. Yoga and meditation are one of their activities, and DeNel is their teacher. In addition to offering classes for the participants, DeNel gifts classes to the amazing caregivers who work tirelessly to allow the residents of Bonny Lea Farm the opportunity to live their lives fully.

Julie — Ontario, Canada

Julie partners with an addiction recovery home to bring trauma informed sessions to mothers as well as their babies. By giving these mothers a place to practice, both mother and child, are able to experience gentle movements and soothing touch. In addition to her classes within the recovery center, Julie also facilitates yoga classes for the workers of the organization, helping them with the self care needed to continue with the amazing work they do. For Julie, more mats means more people can participate and she can continue to spread the wonderful benefits of yoga!

Leslie — Indiana, USA

Leslie is a Licensed Mental Health Counsellor who uses yoga and meditation to help people in recovery from addiction. The majority of her clients have no access to yoga due to financial reasons or lack of services in the area. Leslie has a very genuine, determined, and willing group of people in her Intensive Outpatient Group that are excited by the changes they are making with mindful awareness and increased mind body connection.

Our community is something we are very proud of at b, halfmoon; we are so grateful to have the opportunity to give back. Thank you for all your support over the years, we appreciate each and every one of you!
