With Valentine’s Day and the month of love upon us, we’ve been thinking about the important relationships in our lives. Today we want to give a shout out to one of our very favourite relationships—our yogi friends! Here are just a few reasons why yogis make the best friends ever.
1. They motivate you.
On or off the mat, your yogi friends are often among your greatest cheerleaders and motivators. Whether it’s helping you into a handstand or listening when you need to talk, they literally and figuratively have your back.
2. They're open to growth.
Yoga primes you for introspection and growth. Whenever I’m interested in participating in a personal growth workshop or activity, my yogi friends are the first ones I call to join.
3. They’re flexible.
Literally, yes, but emotionally too! Yoga teaches flexibility and fluidity of both the mind and the body. In this crazy world we live in, having friends that bring flexibility and calm into our lives is a good thing.
4. They're committed to their health.
You don’t have to be a yogi to be committed to your health, but many of us in the yoga community are focused on living a healthy life physically, mentally, and spiritually. Having friends that share these goals with you makes it easier to make healthy habits part of your daily life. Whether it’s hitting a class, going for a hike, or sharing a smoothie bowl, you know your yogi friends will be down to partake.
5. You can double your athleisure wardrobe.
Leggings for days! Having yogi friends means access to their ever-expanding collection of yoga pants, cute tanks, and cozy sweaters.
6. They can accompany you to your favourite activity!
Yoga of course! Yoga classes are made even better when you have one of your BFFs by your side. For an especially fun way to practice with your buds try out Acroyoga!
I’ve always been a bit of a hippie at heart, but like many yogis, I knew I could step up my eco-friendly actions. So in 2019, I made a resolution to drastically cut my waste (garbage and recycling) in favour of a more eco-friendly lifestyle.
In honour of Earth Day, here is some advice to those who may want to adopt their own Zero Waste habits.
